About Me.
Wanda Teresa Ziemba, a Health Information and Compliance Specialist, has been involved in the Healthcare Coding Compliance arena for over 50 years. She is currently the HIT Program Director at City College of San Francisco and adjunct faculty at Santa Barbara City College.
Prior to this, she was a Senior Consultant for Primeau Consulting Group. Prior to that position, she was the Coding & Data Integrity Manager and Acting Privacy Officer for the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. In that position, she was primarily responsible for HIM operations, regulatory report-outs, coding & abstracting, privacy, physician & staff education and was an ICD-10 Project Co-Manager. Preceding her hire at Children’s, she was the Coding Compliance Manager at Washington Hospital, Fremont. There she was responsible for coder training and assurance of correct code assignments and was also an active member of the Compliance Committee, RAC Oversight Committee, Revenue Integrity Task Force and 5M Lives CHF/AMI workgroup. She was also the ICD-10 educator for Washington Hospital. Preceding her hire at Washington Hospital, she was the Associate Compliance Officer for the UCSF Clinical Enterprise. Prior to that appointment, she was the Director of the Health Information Program at Chabot College, managed a successful consulting firm and was the CCS Liaison/Professional Fee Advisor for Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute. For fun, she likes to knit, sail and is a certified chef, primarily serving as a merchant mariner. She enjoys her 150+ Victorian, Greenwing Macaw and Border Collie with her husband Captain Ken who pilots 100-ton boats in the Bay Area. EDUCATION

Extensive legal training in healthcare issues, including Health Law, Bioethics, Malpractice, Health Policy, Auditing and Monitoring, and Risk Assessment as well as experience serving as liaison between all management levels, across multiple organizational functions and between healthcare organizations and regulatory bodies provide her a sound foundation for negotiating complex healthcare delivery and reimbursement issues. She currently holds certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Coding Specialist, Certified in Healthcare Compliance, Certified Healthcare Compliance Officer/Consultant, and Certified Professional Coder, Certified in Project Management and is an AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS Instructor. She was a Director on the California Health Information Association Board of Directors. She is the CHIA 2016 Educator of the Year and is a familiar educator to all and a professional speaker.
